San Carlos has a very unique and diverse coastal mountain range that runs north towards Kino Bay. Los Algodones or the Cotton Mountains as they are called receive their name from the formation of white caps formed on the ocean during our northerly wind cycles in spring and winter. These white caps actually do kind of look like fields of cotton hence the name. Thanks to this wonderful mountain range of ours the coast running north from San Carlos is rocky, mountainous and full of interesting canyons with an abundance of fresh water springs. So what does this have to do with kayaking you ask? Well the coast is dotted with Beautiful sea caves, cliffs and small off shore islands that make this area a kayakers dream come true. Sonoran Sport Center was the first outfitter in town and we are still the best, so if you have your own yak or need a rental talk to us, I know the coast intimately.
