How to get to San Carlos

Well after answering so many questions over the years on how to get here I am going to finally get off my butt and give you a comprehensive page listing the many methods available to you for arriving in our lovely little town.

This page will be under construction for a few weeks while I gather all the info.

Bus Lines:

The Tufesa bus lines have an office in Phoenix and Tucson. As of this posting Nov 15th, 2007 the current departure schedule for the bus that leaves Phoenix and arrives in Guaymas is as follows and the price from Phoenix is $54 dollars. So if you fly to Tucson or Phoenix and would like to avoid the relatively expensive international flight to Guaymas then this is great option. Bus takes around 8 hours from Phoenix to Guaymas.

Tufesa does not take reservations and is a first come first serve bus line. Buses are in great shape and you will be on the same bus all the way to Guaymas.

Airlines:

U.S. Airways fly's direct from Phoenix to Guaymas on a small twin engine turbo prop that carries around 25 passengers. This is the most direct way to arrive in Guaymas. There are no lights at the airport so all departures and arrivals take place during the day. I will pick you up at the airport in Guaymas.

Volaris is a relatively new discount air line that fly's to Hermosillo, our state capital just 80 miles north of San Carlos. Many of our sailing students have flown to Hermosillo and then taken a bus from there to Guaymas. Guaymas is a short 10 minute drive from San Carlos. The cost to fly to Hermosillo from Tijuana one way is around $50 dollars. Some clients have been able to get cheap air fair to San Diego, walk across the border and then hop on a domestic flight to Hermosillo. Once in Hermosillo a quick taxi ride to the bus station and there are busses every 15 minutes passing through Guaymas. I will then pick you up at the bus station in Guaymas and we will be in San Carlos.

Airport Shuttles to the border from Phoenix or Tucson

Some of our more adventurous, creative and or frugal clients have arrived in San Carlos in the following manner.

Get a flight to Phoenix or Tucson.
Hop on one of the many shuttle services that will take you to Nogales Arizona. I will have more info and phone numbers on those shuttles soon but the shuttles cost around 25 dollars to get you to the border.
Once you have arrived in Nogales walk across the border, clear customs and immigration and hop on one of the many regional buses that depart south every 15 minutes.
Get off at Guaymas and I will pick you up at the bus station. Bus service from the Nogales Sonora to Guaymas costs around 15 dollars, I will soon list all of all the bus lines in Nogales. By arriving in this manner you avoid the relatively expensive international plane flight from Phoenix to Guaymas.

Pretty darn reasonable.
