San Carlos to Loreto on Windsplitter November 11th - 17th

Sonoran Sport Center home page

The first leg of our Winter trip begins in San Carlos. For those of you not familiar with San Carlos we are located 325 miles south of Tucson Arizona. You are responsible for arranging your transportation to San Carlos and from Loreto. Loreto is well connected with airline flights to L.A. and there is an international airport located 10 miles from San Carlos in the port town of Guaymas. All your food and drinks while on board the Windsplitter our 40 foot trimaran are covered by the cost of the trip. If you are a certified scuba diver we will have some tanks on board for scuba diving and also kayaks as well. Free diving and spear fishing skills will be emphasized. I will be happy to teach you to free dive and spear fish for no additional charge. If you are interested in any American Sailing Association sailing certifications this can be arranged for an extra price.

Points of interest are many. Isla Tortuga,  Isla San Marcos, Santa Rosalia, Mulege, Conception bay, and  Isla San Ildefonso are just some of the spots along the way that we can visit. You help choose the sailing itinerary so go to some of these links or do your own search on www.google.com and see what you can come up with. There are many unvisited anchorages along the way to Loreto so we can hit some of the more famous spots or some of the less visited spots along the way. For a look at an Noa chart of the Baja coast between Isla San Marcos and Loreto click here

There is fantastic kayaking in Bahia Concepcion and one of my favorite spots for free diving and spear fishing is Isla Tortuga. Tortuga is located about 50 nautical miles from San Carlos and is an excellent dive spot. The island is an extinct volcano and hiking on the island is very interesting. There is a large brown pelican hatchery on the east side of the island and an endemic species of rattle snake as well. A hike up the to the crater of the Volcano shows massive lava flows and lava tubes. Isla San Marcos also boasts some great diving and a building made of gypsum from the local gypsum mine. The cost of this leg of our Journey is $1000 dollars per person
